how to get better at soloing on guitar?
how do u get better at improvising solos on guitar? I know the pentatonic scale inside and out. i know all the different forms of them across the fret board.
but when i solo, my solos always sound the same becuz im using the same licks and i'm basically just going up and down the scale(not entirely but if u look at the solo on a music sheet or something the notes would basically be like ////////// on the sheet).
how do i get better? i need some tips.
also, what other scales do u solo with cuz it cant always just be the pentatonic?
Tips:
1) The most important thing that will help you improvise is to hear, know and feel the notes BEFORE you play them. Don't just fish around through the scales and hope it sounds good. Try singing an improv line over a song and then learn how to play what you sang. All music started with the voice, so use the guitar to speak the music that is in you.
2) Find some great players that you admire and learn how to play their solos. You will learn how they think and learn some new licks in the process.
3) lastly don't be content with just the pentatonic, learn the major/minor scales, the blues scale and maybe even more once you improve and get comfortable with those (Harmonic minor, Melodic Minor, Whole Tone, Lydian b7, Mixo #5, etc.). Learn the theory behind why what sounds good works.
4) get a good private instructor. This is the best way to improve quickly if you can afford it.
