Learning violin after piano?
I've recently completed my grade 8 practical in piano and got a merit..=D However, a few years back I fell in love with the violin and still am, so since I'm done with piano I was thinking of finally starting the violin. I'm curious as in what to expect in the first few lessons, since the violin requires a different set of skills but I can read notes n stuff..and can I start Grade 1 straightaway? How long will it take to go through the 'sawing' period? How do teachers normally deal with students who already know music? Opinions n advices will be very much appreciated. Thanks =)
Of course being 'done' with piano doesn't mean I'm saying I'm a pro pianist..it's just that I dun intend to pursue a career in music and it's more like a reasonably serious hobby. Duh.
Hi, I play piano and violin (I started piano before violin).
In my first few lessons I just played very basic pizzicato pieces and I started to use the bow a few weeks after.
I don't think you'd get to grade 1 straight away it will take a while to get to grade 1 standard from beginner. It will take you a while to learn finger patterns, bowing techniques etc...
I think your violin teacher will do little theory with you since you already know it but they will do some (not much though).
Oh, by the way congratulations on completing grade 8.
Well done! I hope yo enjoy violin.
Good luck!
