Could someone tell me why does dream theater's mike portnoy use a 3 bass drum set?
I know that he uses the double bass set in some songs, and the other one in others songs.
But I can't really understand If it is useful. Do you have something that he have declared about?
His set is configured as two sets in one....one on the left and one on the right. They each share components in the middle. He does not use all three bass drums in one song, he instead picks a side to play on, he has to physically switch seats to use the other side of the set. The middle bass drum is the 'primary' bass if he plays on the left set, and it is the 'secondary' bass if he plays on the right set.
