Why was the Star Spangled Banner chosen as our national anthem over America the Beautiful and other songs?

The Star Spangled Banner was written way back in 1812 whereas America the Beautiful is a modern ode written in 1893 with a final edit in 1913 // \ and as such it is an adopted anthem as is Irving Berlin's God Bless America...
Just as America embraces John McCain (born closer to 1812 then just about anyone) seniority counts when it comes to American Institutions....
Oddly enough desite what has been said about The Star Spangled Banner being hard to sing the truth is that thousands of drunken sports fans slurring the Star Bangled Banner is easier to take then America the Beautiful sung by the same drunken rowdy crowds - - - "Pruple Mounted Majesties Above the Fruity Plains" is a big rugged on the Pscyhe though when sung correctly it is a wonderful song..
