I can't seem to make a note on my flute...?
Like the title says, I can't.
I got the embouchure... I can make a sound, which is a little airy but I understand that's normal for a beginner (I started 2 weeks ago during the holidays) and I got the scale too.. but as soon as I tried out the first note we have to learn in our 'Accent on Achievement', which is D... I only get air... no sound, so then I try E flat... and it makes the same sound, then I try F and it makes a low sound... the flute was provided by the school and I've been practicing 2 hours a day. Is there something wrong with the flute? Or is it just me? Any tips how to get those notes?
Is this the upper or lower octave D or E-flat? If you're using "Accent on Achievement" I can assume it's the mid-octave (D on the third-line in the staff).
What scale are you able to do? Do the notes in the scale include the notes you can't reach?
Without that information, it sounds like you're not using enough air speed to reach the mid-octave. It can also be a flute problem as well--if you have a pad that's sealing or leaking when it shouldn't, it can cause your flute to do the same things you're describing.
I would talk to your band director about it. You need someone to physically watch what you're doing to be able to find the problem.
